Winter activities abound in northern Macomb County
The following are a few winter activities that will be taking place in Romeo, as well as Washington, Bruce and Ray townships in the coming months:

The Wolcott Mill Historic Center in Ray Township will host Tots Making Muffins with Mom, on Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. This winter activity is designed for moms and their young children, with a focus on measuring ingredients, mixing and baking. Parents should bring an apron for their child; gloves will be provided. Cost is $5 per child. Call 800-477-3175 or 749-5997.
The Farm Learning Center will host Fun with Chickens on Jan. 27 and 29 at 11 a.m. Visitors can learn about chickens, help with the incubation process, make a craft, listen to a story and enjoy a snack. Cost is $5 per child. Call 752-5932.
On Jan. 15, the Graubner Library will host a program by Mary Andrews, an award-winning quilter. Andrews will speak about the creation of art quilts. The program runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Call 752-0603.
Residents interested in learning more about financing a college education are invited to a program at the Graubner Library on Jan. 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The program will cover financial aid, and tips about applying for grants, loans and scholarships. Call 752-0603.
The Romeo-Washington-Bruce Parks and Recreation Department will host cardboard sled races Feb. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Morton Mountain Sled Hill. Residents are invited to start two-person teams that can compete for fastest time and most creative sled. All sleds must be constructed of cardboard, tape and paint only. Both riders must be able to see out of the sled when they are coming down the hill. After the race, participants can go inside the Romeo Community Center for hot cocoa and refreshments while watching a movie. Call 752-6543.
On March 27, Romeo High School will be the site of the Romeo-Washington-Bruce Parks and Recreation Teen Bash and Open Swim Night. The event runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m., and costs $3 for residents. Participants can swim, play basketball or just hang out with friends. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 752-6543.
The Graubner Library will host a series of programs to teach adults the uses of a computer. On Jan. 23-24, the library will present a program about basic computer use from 9 to 10 a.m. On Feb. 27-28, from 9 to 10 a.m., the library will provide information about e-mailing. On March 27-28, participants will learn more about browsing the Internet from 9 to 10 a.m. Call 752-0603.
