Shortly after noon on Feb. 17, the management at Faurencia advised police that the building had been broken into and 192 GPS systems valued at $172,000 were stolen. According to Sterling Heights Police Lt. Michael Reese, the investigation was then turned over to the Police Investigations Bureau. Further probing led to the arrest of Savage - who Reese said was an employee at Faurencia - and Bowers. Search warrants were then issued for two residences in Oak Park and Detroit, at which 187 of the GPS units were recovered. Neither house belonged to Savage, Reese said. Both suspects appeared in 41-A District Court on Feb. 21 on charges of larceny-$20,000 or more and conspiracy to larceny-$20,000 or more. Savage and Bowers both pleaded not guilty, and bonds were set at $25,000 cash. Until bond is posted, the suspects remain in the Macomb County Jail; they are due in court for a preliminary exam at 1:30 p.m. on March 3 at 41-A District Court. |
