The Romeo Community Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence will have its second annual road rally fundraiser May 10 at 6 p.m. The road rally will begin with check-in at Hamilton-Parsons Elementary School and features a follow-the-route format, the same as last year.

“Last year went great,” said Amy Aul, a board member with the foundation. “It was a lot of fun and we raised some money and that was the whole goal.”

Last year featured approximately 25 teams and was able to raise approximately $1,000.

This year Aul hopes for an even better turnout.

“All of the money goes back to the education of the children,” she said. “I’m hoping that we get a higher turnout, that would be wonderful. Rallies are a lot of fun.”

The cost for the road rally is $30 per person for teams of 4-6 people. The money collected will be used by the foundation to enhance education throughout the district by providing grants to teachers.

“We give out grants every December to teachers in the district,” said Aul, who added that last year the foundation awarded approximately $20,000. Teachers use the money for things like watching live surgeries over video feed, having special assemblies, taking students on field trips and much more.

Last year, the foundation also gave each library in the district $500.

“It is for things that go above and beyond what the district can pay for,” she said. “We help pay for those extras.”

The event, which uses a follow-the-route format, will feature hints at each stop en route to direct teams to the next stop. Participants will be treated to pizza and salad at the end of the rally.
