At approximately 9:30 p.m. on April 26, the 38-year-old owner of Tubby’s, located on 15 Mile Road at Dodge Park Road, was assaulted as he was locking up the store.

According to Sterling Heights police, the victim had just locked the front door of the restaurant and had proceeded to the rear of the building when he observed the suspect standing next to the back door. The suspect, described as a clean-shaven black male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie and blue jean shorts, and armed with a silver Tac-9 assault rifle, demanded the victim hand over money from the store’s safe.

When the suspect took the money from the victim, the victim attempted to take the assault rifle away from the suspect. The suspect then fired the weapon, wounding the victim in the leg. Sterling Heights Police Lt. Michael Reese said he believes only one shot was fired. The victim was transported to St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, where he was listed in stable condition.

After taking an undetermined amount of money, the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Reese said police have no concrete information about the suspect, but said the robbery has not been tied to any other incidents the department has seen. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ted Kalinowski at 446-2850.
