Sports PUBLISHED:
Romeo girls placed top six in several events including winning the shot put relay with the team of Liz Murphy, Kara Lotan and Kelly Sylvia (88-8 1/2). Annette Brewer, Sam Monicatti, Allison Crites and Sam Morsches took fourth place in the Anchor Bay Tar event (6:35.3). The girls earned another fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:14.6) with Caymen Novak, Kendal Novak, Brewer and Arielle Loyson competing. The Bulldog team of Olivia Occuran, Jordan James, Caymen Novak and Marie Mets tied for fifth place with LAnse Creuse in the 800 meter run (1:59.9). Romeo competitors took second place in the shot put/discus 400-meter relay exhibition event (1:01.9) with the team of Murphy, Lotan, Sylvia and Kendal Novak. Only field event people can compete in this one, Romeo coach Mike Lee said. Brewer, Kaytlin Jabour and Jen Soboleski combined to finish fourth in the high jump relay (12-9). The Romeo team of Murphy, Lotan and Kendal Novak was fifth in the discus relay (244-9). Loyson, Jonathon Taylor, Mets and Tony Vultaggio took the silver medal in the co-ed Bay Medley Relay (4:02.5). We had some good performances from our young team, Lee said. Its a fun meet for the kids because it is the combined score of all the contestants that earn a teams place in an event. We also saw some different events than a normal dual-meet. On Tuesday, April 29, Romeo lost a close meet to LAnse Creuse North 71-62. In field events, Murphy won both the shot (36-10) and discus (92-10), to remain undefeated in both events. Mets finished third in the long jump. Bulldogs swept the pole vault with Kendal Novak, Jabour and Wash taking the top three places. Caymen Novak won both the 100 (17.1) and 300 hurdles (54.4). Brewer took third in the 300. In sprints, Occuran won the 100 (13.3) and was second in the 200. Becker took thirds in both the 200 and 400 races. In distance, Erica Staelgraeve won the 1600 (6:02.0) with Bridget McCloskey second. The pair reversed in the 3200 with McCloskey first (12:52.0) and Staelgraeve second. Mets, Occuran, Becker and Kendal Novak combined to win the 800 relay (1:56.0). Romeos record is 1-3-1 with two league matches to run. Just a couple more girls in distance and another sprinter would make all the difference for the team, Lee said. However, we only will lose four seniors so have lots to look forward in the future for the girls track program. |
