Businesses like Westview and Bowerman’s orchards’ cherry crops were light this year, following bitterly cold weather during Easter weekend. Westview, for instance, lost more than 50 percent of its usual cherry crop.

“We are a little light,” said Tom Bowerman, owner of Bowerman’s Orchard and Greenhouse. “It all depends on the variety and the time they were coming out. The cold snap hit them and hurt them.”

Although not all the area orchards were affected.

“We had a really nice crop, this year,” said Bill Verellen, owner of Verellen Orchards. “A majority of the cherries are real nice.”

The strange spring weather will also affect the time that other area fruits and vegetables come in.

According to Abby Jacobson, co-owner of Westview Orchards with her sister, Katrina Schumacher, their crops will come in about a week early.

“The peaches and apples look great,” said Jacobson. “All the fruits and veggies look great - everything looks great.”

The following is a list of orchards in the Romeo area that sell cherries. People should call ahead to confirm that cherries are still available and for hours of operation.
