Authors Suzanne Arruda, Cordelia Frances Biddle, Chris Grabenstein, Kathryn Miller Haines and Peter Leonard will discuss mystery novels, and their experiences writing in the mystery genre, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Their visit is part of the fourth annual Mystery Comes to Michigan program.

“They will discuss their own work, their philosophy, how they think through the process,” said Kathy Fannon, adult services librarian at the Graubner Library. “They are five very different authors.”

Suzanne Arruda is the author of a series of mysteries about fictional character Jade del Cameron. Arruda had studied wildlife and ecology in school, and has used their influence in her writing. Much of the series revolves around her characters and their adventures in Africa during the 1920s.

Cordelia Frances Biddle is the author of the Martha Beale series, which features characters set in 19th-century Philadelphia. Biddle, aside from being a published author, has experience as a television and stage actor, having worked on the show “One Life to Live.”

Chris Grabenstein is the author of the Ceepak Mysteries. Grabenstein has written thrillers as well as most recently a young adult novel. The Ceepak mysteries revolve around a new police officer in a seaside town in New Jersey.

Kathryn Miller Haines, author of the Rosie Winter mystery series, sets her characters in 1940s New York. Haines also has experience as an actor and a playwright.

Peter Leonard, the son of Elmore Leonard, will discuss his new novel, “Quiver.” Leonard owns an advertising agency in Michigan.

“They are just fascinating people,” said Fannon. “They are more than just writers. It is very exciting to have authors here in any way, shape or form, but to have five at once - it is kind of overwhelming.”

The program will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m., and refreshments will follow. Copies of the writers’ books will be available for purchase.

The program is being funded in part by the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The Graubner Library, located north of 30 Mile Road on the west side of Van Dyke, is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
