Like most artists, Angie Mausolf began toying around with the craft when she was a little girl. These days Mausolfs hobby has garnered her some attention and she was named the Sterling Heights November Artist of the Month.

Art isnt a full-time career yet for Mausolf. She obtained her degree in elementary education, but she isnt a schoolteacher. Mausolf works at TACOM, or Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command.
Approximately 15 years ago, Mausolf started painting, and eventually ended up showing and selling her work in shops like Studio 1219 in Port Huron and 323 East in Royal Oak.
Ive always wanted to share it with the world, Mausolf said.
A sampling of her artwork is on display in the lower level of the City Hall for the entire month, where visitors can check out her paintings and drawings in different mediums.
The Warren resident uses acrylics to paint some of her pieces, while other works are done in pen and ink. Sometimes she even mixes her media and puts materials like lace with her drawings and paintings.
Mausolf admits she is a self-taught artist. Some of her inspirations include Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso, and she particularly enjoys creating art centered on butterflies and old movie stars.
I can be inspired by anything I find beautiful and interesting, Mausolf said.
Generally, she describes her work as abstracts, representational or expressive, and pop art.
My style varies considerably, but is generally characterized by bright, pure colors, hard edges and a straightforward composition, Mausolf said. My work represents the contrast between the chaos of life and the orderliness of it, through representing familiar subjects in new or unusual ways.
Although it depends on how large and how intricate a piece of artwork is, the bigger works usually take Mausolf about 20 to 30 hours to complete. She creates the pieces in her home, in her spare time, for her own enjoyment.
I just really find it fun, Mausolf said. It gives me a chance to express ideas.
Mausolf also does commissioned pieces. For more information, visit www.angiemausolf.com
